Door Entry Systems

Our systems range from the very basic 2-wire audio for a small apartment block or private house to the ultimate in IP Colour systems designed for the largest residential or commercial developments.

Hard Wired Systems
A Door Entry System provides an audio or video communication link between two or more locations. There are several ways of achieving this; either hard-wired or telephony based systems. In most cases both can be considered, however each project will have its own reasons for choosing a type to suit the most cost effective and user-friendly solution.
At SAL we can offer you non-biased, expert advice on which system is best for the application and end-user.
We will advise on design, cabling, Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), Secure by Design (SBD) and on-going maintenance requirements.
Video or Audio?
Often the decision to choose between Audio & Video comes down to cost; however sometimes there is a legislative requirement from either Secure by Design (SBD) or Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
There is a choice between monochrome and colour monitors and also a cost effective solution where we can use a lower cost audio system with an entrance camera linked to the buildings communal TV system.
Whatever the choice SAL can advise you on what systems are best for your project.
Analogue & Digital / IP
SAL offer a wide range of hard-wired Audio and Video door entry systems. Systems can be either analogue, digital or even the latest IP.
Analogue systems are often the most cost effective choice for smaller projects. They are best suited to developments up to 9 apartments, after that the panel sizes may become an issue, as a call button is required for each apartment.
Where cost is important these systems are ideal as they are easy to install, have a wide range of standard and vandal resistant panels and a choice of wall and table-top phones.
Digital systems are the obvious choice for larger developments with either single or multiple entrances.
Most work on a very cost effective digibus 2-wire system that makes cabling very simple and provides many of installation advantages including; long cable runs, no limit to amount of entrances, upto 250 handsets, concierge and intercom. Isolated systems are standard ensuring any local faults do not affect other residents.
Internet Protocol Systems are the very latest technology and offer a solution to every access control scenario.
Features include: No limit to amount of users or entrances, simultaneous conversations, supported by existing or dedicated LAN, links to other in-house systems such as alarms, CCTV and home automation.
For servicing, on-line remote access makes diagnosing faults so much easier.
IP systems are ideal for the larger residential developments, commercial establishments, schools and hospitals.

Telephony Based Door Entry Systems
There are going to be projects where installing or upgrading a wired door entry system is simply just too difficult. SAL have a solution!
A Telephony Door Entry System has no wires or handsets in each apartment. It works through either a BT telephone line or a SIM Card.
These systems are an excellent choice for retro fitting or introducing to a building where cabling cannot be hidden/ They are audio only but if there is a communal TV system we can add a camera to each entrance to link to all TV’s in each apartment.
Like wired systems there is a choice of cost effective analogue panels for the smaller blocks and digital panels for larger systems when there is no limit to the amount of entrances or users.
Other advantages include; easy installation, ability to answer the caller and open the front door from any phone any where in the world!
Telephony Based Systems do require a dedicated BT line or SIM card where the private management company usually re-charges the standing and usage charges back to the resident. Housing Associations often absorb the costs into their rental charges.
Residents will need a landline phone or mobile to communicate with their entrance and release the door.
How does a Telephone Based Door Entry Systems Work?
When visitors press a button to call a resident from the telephone-based door entry panel, the system simply speed dials the pre-programmed telephone numbers (land line or mobile).
The resident can open the door by pressing a key on their telephone keypad, and (if their panel includes video) check the feed from the camera on their television.
